＜Event＞ Art Mix Japan 2020. Niigata’s largest ever Art Mix Japan event, featuring a huge range of traditional Japanese art forms. April 18th and 19th, 2020.
Art Mix Japan, a weekend-long arts festival celebrating a wide range of traditional Japanese art forms, will be held in Niigata City on the weekend of April 18th and 19th, 2020. Performances include shamisen, taiko drumming, rakugo, kyōgen and kagura.
The festival, now in its eighth year, gathers together internationally acclaimed artists performing across twenty-two different genres of traditional Japanese performing arts at twenty-four venues in the city of Niigata. Among the headline acts are vocalist Kizuki Minami, who frequently appears on television music programmes and whose songs often feature on NHK period drama soundtracks; kyōgen artist Nomura Manzō, a performer who needs no introduction to Japanese audiences; and biwa instrumentalist and vocalist, living national treasure Okumura Kyokusui.
For the weekend of April 18th and 19th, Niigata will be transformed into the “city of Japanese culture”. As well as the headline performances, the festival features twenty different side events, including food, sake, kimono, tea ceremony, flower arranging, calligraphy and much more. In addition, event-goers can experience Japanese traditional culture through virtual reality.
